EXCEEDING THE STANDARDS
Our school meals service is working closely with schools to raise standards in the following ways:
- Achieving the Government’s Nutritional Standards for school lunches, allowing your children to enjoy healthy food and maintain a balanced diet, using fresh produce and cooking homemade dishes
- Ensuring that school Catering Staff are trained in food hygiene, health and safety, culinary skills and nutrition.
- Sourcing food from reputable local suppliers and improving links between producers and schools.
- Working in partnership with schools to improve nutritional education.
- Consult with parents, children and schools, to improve the existing levels of school meal provision.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A SCHOOL MEAL?
- We offer a choice of freshly cooked main meals and a selection of desserts every day.
- In addition to the main course and dessert there will be a selection of vegetables, salad, fresh fruit , home cooked french bread and water, representing excellent value for money.
- We are able to cater for specific diets that are required for religious, cultural or medical reasons. Our dietitian is available to discuss menus to cater for specific needs. A vegetarian option is provided every day.
- All our meals are prepared by local, helpful and friendly staff who ensure that your child selects a healthy and balanced lunch.
- Enjoy the benefits of someone else planning and preparing a balanced lunch for your child. This will save you worrying about preparing a packed meal every day.
HELPING THEM THROUGH THE DAY
Mental Awareness
Research has shown that children who eat a balanced meal at lunchtime are more likely to maintain concentration during the remainder of the school day.
Social Skills
The social development of children is an essential part of the school curriculum. We aim for the school meal to be a pleasing, positive educational experience where children can enjoy their lunch whilst having the benefit of healthy eating.
Physical Needs
In today’s climate it is important that children balance their diet with regular exercise. A lunch can provide the necessary energy to cope with the demands of the school day.
